DIY Home Project: How to make your own craft table
My husband and I did this DIY home project together. I don't mind projects like this, especially since I did have help, and it wasn't too expensive. Where something isn't too expensive, usually, of course, it means extra time. Here are the supplies we purchased: - Hollow-core doors, unfinished, without any holes cut out for doorknobs
- Wooden table legs, unfinished
- Hardware for attaching the legs
- Self-stick linoleum floor tiles, 12" x 12"
We painted the legs, attached the linoleum tiles to the top of the table, that is, the side of the door that would be the table top, painted the edges of the door, then attached the hardware for the table legs on the under side, and screwed on the table legs. Ideally, you would want six table legs for tables made of hollow-core doors, since the length is such that you would need the center support.
Why did we take on a project like this? For me, it was primarily a functionality issue. Craft tables, like the kinds that have the folding legs, did not work for me, as the mechanisms that keep the legs in place got in the way of my putting craft organizers underneath the table. Additionally, most of the folding craft tables aren't quite deep enough or long enough for my purposes. Go here for more on organization DIY home project ideas.
